WHAT IS DLA IS FOR.. WHAT DOES IT COVER?

Please lighten up on the Caps it is annoying. Yes DLA is Dislocation allowance and it is a one time payment designed to offset the incidental costs of a move that are not usually covered by travel and per diem. It is separate from expenses incurred from air travel. Orders will normally list by name any dependents covered on the travel orders as well. I think, I Think the reason may be because we stated we moved from our home of record to our first duty station which is causing the glitch. If you were moving from your first duty station to the second or more importantly to an overseas location with command sponsorship you would be listed on the orders then or later when your travel is approved to be with your husband. I really think and it has been a couple of years now but since you moved from your home where your husband joined the Army which was his first duty station they don't consider that a PCS move as opposed to moving a soldier to his first duty station and the expense is upon him if he wants his family there or not and the military won't reimburse that either. It would not be any different if you were living in Kansas and your husbands first duty station was in Georgia you would have to make your way out there since he just left training status. I would urge your husband to use his Chain of Command to help sort this issue out as they are the ones who if they don't have the right answer can push the right ons to get you the right answer and direct your husband towards steps to get reimbursed if that is allowed or not. Use the chain of command and I am sure the answers and help you really need will be found.
